Recognizing that their customers in both the domestic and international marketplace wanted credible testing and certification, various onion shippers from Idaho and Oregon formed Certified Onions, Inc. (COI), an Oregon non-profit organization committed to ensuring the integrity and safety of onions marketed from the Idaho-Oregon growing area.
Certified Onions, Inc. is a Non-Profit Organization committed to ensuring the integrity and safety of onions marketed from the Idaho-Oregon growing area through third-party field and facility testing of onions for pesticide residues and the presence of undesirable pathogens.

COMMITMENT TO CUSTOMER CONFIDENCE
Working closely with the Idaho Quality Assurance Laboratory and industry experts to ensure that the onion products marketed met a rigorous standard their customers could have confidence in, Certified Onions, Inc. designed a program of third-party field and facility testing . The Idaho Quality Assurance Laboratory provides official governmental sampling and testing of onion bulbs as part of the program.
Our available testing standards are for either pesticide residues or undesirable pathogens. The Idaho Quality Assurance Laboratory has state of the art equipment and highly trained staff to ensure that the onions originating from the Idaho-Oregon area being sold in the marketplace by their members are free of pesticide residues and the presence of undesirable pathogens.
